Dr Lilian Hunt is a geneticist who’s PhD focused on the non-coding genome – the 98% of your DNA that isn’t genes! Her work looked at regions that are the same in vertebrates and how they instruct the genes on when and where to switch on in development. She has also worked on instances of non-coding variation and mutations in people with obesity and schizophrenia, as well as contributing to work on mitochondrial disorders. Currently, Lilian is out of the lab and bringing together Wellcome Trust, GSK and The Francis Crick Institute to improve equality, diversity and inclusion in science and health through a project called EDIS (edisgroup.org). Lilian lives in London with her soon-to-be wife Holly, and spends most of her free time travelling and trying to avoid picking up Holly’s Australian accent!
